Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to paste my JSON here?

Yes. Formatting and checking happen in your browser, on your device. Nothing you paste or open is sent anywhere or saved, so API answers, keys and customer data stay private.

Why does my JSON show an error?

The message names the mistake and gives its line and column. The usual ones are a missing or extra comma, a missing quote mark, single quotes instead of double quotes, and comments, which JSON doesn't allow.

Will formatting change my numbers or keys?

No. Every number, key and piece of text is written exactly as it was, so 12345678901234567890 stays whole, 1.0 stays 1.0 and repeated keys are all kept. Only spaces and line breaks change.

What's the difference between Format and Minify?

Format puts each value on its own line, indented, so the JSON is easy to read. Minify removes every space and line break, so it's as small as possible to send or store.

How big a JSON file can I format?

Up to 5 MB. A very long result shows only its start on the screen, but Copy and Download always have all of it.
