MBOX Viewer
Open an MBOX mailbox from Google Takeout or Thunderbird, even one of several GB. Search by sender or subject, read any email, save it as PDF or .eml and download its attachments.
How to use it
- 1Add the .mbox file: Google Takeout's Mail export, or a mail folder saved from Thunderbird or Apple Mail.
- 2The mailbox is read once to list its emails. A big one takes a few minutes, and you can cancel at any time and keep what is listed.
- 3Search by sender or subject, then open an email to read it, save it as PDF or .eml, or download its attachments.
- 4Tick emails and download them together as .eml files in a zip.
Frequently asked questions
How do I open the .mbox file from Google Takeout?
Unzip the Takeout download and open its Mail folder: the .mbox file there holds your Gmail. Add it here; a mailbox of several GB works too.
Is there a limit?
Up to 200,000 emails of a mailbox are listed. One email of up to 50 MB can be opened, and one zip takes up to 10,000 emails or 2 GB.
Why do some emails show no pictures?
Pictures that an email loads from the internet are blocked, so the sender can't learn that you opened it. Pictures sent inside the email are shown.
Can I open the saved .eml files later?
Yes. Outlook, Thunderbird and Apple Mail open .eml files, and so does the EML & MSG to PDF tool on this site.
