Frequently asked questions
What size should a Reel, Short or Status be?
Upright 9:16 video. At the 1080 size the tool makes 1080 × 1920 pixels, which fills a phone screen in Instagram Reels and Stories, YouTube Shorts and WhatsApp Status.
Should I crop or fit the whole video?
Cropping fills the screen but cuts off the sides, or the top and bottom; slide the position to keep the person or thing that matters. Fitting keeps the whole picture and fills the empty space with a blurred copy of it or a colour.
Will resizing lower the quality?
The video is re-encoded once at a high bitrate. Cropping a landscape video to 9:16 enlarges the part that is kept, so it can look softer than the original; a smaller size keeps it closer to the original sharpness.
Which shape is best for an Instagram post?
4:5 (1080 × 1350 pixels) takes up the most room in the feed. 1:1 square suits most other apps, and 16:9 suits YouTube and TVs.
