Excel to CSV

Convert XLSX, XLS and ODS sheets to CSV that opens correctly in Excel, with Hindi and other Indian scripts intact and long numbers written in full. Pick one sheet or all of them.

Tip: choose several files at once to process them all with the same settings.

How to use it

  1. 1Choose or drop an Excel file (XLSX, XLS or ODS).
  2. 2Pick the sheet, or all sheets, and the separator. The first rows are shown so you can check them.
  3. 3Download the CSV, or a .zip with one CSV for each sheet.

Frequently asked questions

Will Hindi or Tamil text show correctly when I open the CSV in Excel?

Yes. The CSV is saved as UTF-8 with a BOM, the mark Excel looks for to read Indian scripts. Choose plain UTF-8 only if a database or program asks for it.

Why do Aadhaar and account numbers turn into 1.23E+11 in my CSV?

Excel shows numbers longer than 11 digits that way, but the CSV made here writes the whole number. Excel itself keeps only 15 digits of a number, so longer account numbers survive only if they were typed into the sheet as text.

Can I convert every sheet of a workbook?

Yes. Choose All sheets and you get a .zip with one CSV for each sheet, named after the sheet.

What's the difference between As shown in Excel and Plain values?

As shown writes cells the way Excel displays them, with ₹ signs, commas and your date format. Plain values writes numbers without formatting and dates as YYYY-MM-DD, which suits databases and code.

Can it open a password-protected workbook?

No. Open it in Excel with the password, save a copy without one and convert that copy.
