Frequently asked questions
Why does Excel remove the leading zero from PIN codes and phone numbers?
When Excel opens a CSV itself, it reads 0612 or 09876543210 as a number and drops the zero. This tool saves such values as text in the XLSX, so they stay exactly as written.
Will 12-digit Aadhaar or long account numbers be changed?
No. Excel keeps only 15 digits of a number and shows anything over 11 digits as 1.23E+11, so values like these are saved as text and shown in full.
Does it change my dates?
No. Dates are left as written unless you choose a date order: DD/MM/YYYY (as used in India) or MM/DD/YYYY makes them real Excel dates you can sort and filter.
Why are some cells starting with = or + saved with a ' in front?
A cell starting with =, +, - or @ can run as a formula when a sheet is opened, a known trick for hiding harmful commands in shared files. The ' keeps it as text. Turn the setting off for a file you trust.
Which separators does it understand?
Commas, semicolons (common in exports from European software), tabs and the | pipe. It finds the right one from the first lines, and you can choose it yourself.
