XML to CSV

Convert XML to CSV: the repeating record element is found for you, each record becomes a row, and its attributes and child elements become columns. Hindi text stays intact in Excel.

Tip: choose several files at once to process them all with the same settings.

How to use it

  1. 1Choose or drop an XML file, or paste the XML.
  2. 2Check the preview. The element that repeats gives the rows; pick another from the list if you need to.
  3. 3Download the CSV, or copy it.

Frequently asked questions

Which elements become rows?

The element that repeats most and has fields of its own, such as each invoice inside an invoices list. Every one of them becomes a row, and you can pick a different element from the list.

How are attributes and nested elements written?

Each attribute gets a column named after it, such as id, and each nested element a column named by its path, such as address.city. An attribute of a nested element is written like author.@id.

What if an element appears more than once inside a record?

Each one gets its own column, such as phone.0 and phone.1, so nothing is dropped.

Will Hindi text show correctly in Excel?

Yes. The CSV is saved as UTF-8 with a BOM, which Excel needs to read Indian scripts. Choose plain UTF-8 for databases and code.
